The 2011 Chevy Volt was introduced just over a year ago and debuted as the first plug-in electric vehicle to be mass-produced in the U.S. Kansas City used Chevy dealers lured consumers with the Volt’s extended electric-only drive range, second to none fuel economy and uncompromised performance. The Volt quickly became known for delivering the assets of a hybrid vehicle without any of the drawbacks. Offering the rare blend of space, power and safety in a gas-frugal car and what’s not to love?
As the Volt enters the 2012 model year and celebrates its second birthday, used Chevy drivers have to wonder, how much better can the Volt get? Chevy made a couple of subtle changes of which include a $1,000 price reduction, but wisely left many of the Volt’s features untouched. Of the many alluring qualities consumers can expect, these three will likely make the new Volt irresistible.
Extended Drive Range
Sure a number of hybrid cars can drive on electric power alone, but not as long or as fast as the Volt. The Volt can reach speeds up to 100 mph and drive as long as 25 – 50 miles without using one drop of gasoline. The Volt is powered by a lithium-ion battery pack until it is 70% depleted and then draws power from a 1.4-liter four-cylinder engine. Various technologies including the engine generator and regenerative braking also contribute to the Volt’s extended drive range and uncompromised performance.
More Options
The Volt was first offered at your Kansas City used car dealership in three trim levels but will be available in six trim levels for the 2012 model year. Along with additional trim levels, new amenities have been made standard as well. Of the new standard features is Chevy’s MyLink system, an integrated infotainment system which includes Bluetooth streaming audio and voice control. Available features include a navigation system, backup camera, heated front seats and a rear parking assist system.
Wider Availability, Lower Price
Though the Volt first hit dealerships in December of 2010, it didn’t arrive at your used car dealer until November of this year. The Volt was initially only sold in seven states but will debut for the 2012 model year nationwide. Not only will the Volt be easier for you to get your hands on because of more availability, it will also come at a lower cost. The Volt will be offered with the same affordable option packages but will cost over $1,000 less than the current model. Paired with the money saved at the gas pumps and the Volt is practically a steal!
