For the past four decades, the Chevy Camaro has been the poster child of sports cars. Delivering strong acceleration, head-turning style and a number of powerful engine choices, it’s easy to see why the Camaro has been a favorite among Olathe drivers with a need for speed. Despite an already loyal fan base and outselling competitors like the Ford Mustang by over 7,000 units, Chevy managed to up the stakes with the 2011 Camaro.

In addition to increased horsepower and more standard features, the 2011 model debuted at your Kansas City used car dealer with it an available Convertible trim level. A convertible version of the Camaro hadn’t been offered since 2002 making last year’s model a much anticipated debut for those looking to soak up the sun while appeasing their need for speed.

Aside from the added ability to soak up the sun mid-drive, used car drivers opting for the topless trim level were able to choose from same two engine choices offered with the hardtop models: a standard 3.6-liter V6 engine or the power packed 6.2-liter V8 engine. Rated at 312 horsepower and 426 horsepower, respectively, both engines deliver more than adequate power and are sure to deliver the tire-spinning performance you’d expect in a Camaro.

The Camaro convertible’s acceleration and handling are also similar to its hardtop cousin. The standard V6 engine powers the convertible from 0 mph to 60 mph in 6 seconds and the V8 engine in just 5 seconds. Though many cars that lose their roofs also tend to lose their handling, the Camaro is not one of them. A stiffer torso and front/rear weight distribution allow for effortless cornering and precise steering.

The long list of standard features previous Camaro models came with was left untouched for the 2011 model year. A tilt and telescoping steering wheel, 18-inch steel wheels, keyless entry and automatic headlights are among the features that come standard with the base Camaro. Kansas City used car drivers who upgrade to the 1LT trim level will get alloy wheels, iPod connectivity, Bluetooth, a leather-wrapped steering wheel and rear park assist.

For 2012, the Camaro convertible will remain nearly identical to the model currently at your used car dealer. Aside from the addition of an available review mirror, revised suspension and tweaked interior, the latest Camaro is largely untouched from last year’s model. Whether opting for a new or used model, Camaro convertible drivers won’t be disappointed.
