General Motors has finally reached the next step in their revolutionary new model The Volt. The automaker is pleased to announce battery packs for the extended electric car are currently in production. The Volt requires a 16-kilowatt-hour lithium-ion battery pack, and General Motors has successfully created the first batch.
Not only are the Volt batteries well on their way toward mass production but GM speculates the Volt may not cost as much as was originally speculated. Kansas City used car dealerships are pleased to hear the Volt will hopefully cost significantly less than the originally assumed $40K. Although the lithium-ion battery packs are said to cost from $500 to $1,000 per kilowatt hour, General Motors is working hard on designating an affordable price that should be announced by summer of this year. Customers will also be eligible for the $7,500 federal electric-vehicle tax credit, making the Volt an even more financially responsible purchase.
Kansas City used Chevrolet dealerships are encouraged by the incredible steps General Motors is taking in creating a quality hybrid vehicle. General Motors has completely redesigned the Brownstown Battery Pack Assembly Plant outside Detroit in order to create an ideal production space for the Volt battery packs. The company has also spent $25 million on developing a state of the art Battery lab. After the manufacturing equipment for the battery packs is properly set up production of the Volt will begin. General Motors has invested $700 million in eight factories across Michigan which will contribute to the Volt’s assembly.
General Motors is clearly dedicated to the development of hybrid technology for the benefit of everyone from GM factory workers in Detroit to the local Warrensburg Chevy dealership customers. A considerable amount of money has been invested by General Motors to create not only more efficient automobiles but also provide jobs and technology to the people of the United States. The completion of the Volt is bringing hybrid technology development to this country and changing how automobiles will be powered forever.
